Manual Import

While PastReads offers automated imports from popular reading platforms like Kindle, Apple Books, and Kobo, you can also manually add books, highlights, and notes to your library. This is perfect for physical books or any other reading material not supported by our automated import options.

What You Can Add

When manually adding content, you can include:

  • 📚 Book information (title and author)
  • 🔍 Highlight text with rich formatting
  • 📝 Notes, either standalone or attached to highlights

Adding Content

You can manually add content in two ways:

  1. From your library view using the "Import" button
  2. From within an existing book's view using the "Add" button

Adding a New Book

Click the "Import" button in your library

Select "Add Book" from the options

Enter the book's title and author

After adding a book, you can start adding highlights and notes to it.

Adding Highlights and Notes

Navigate to the book where you want to add content

Click the "Add" button in the top right

Choose whether to add a highlight or a note

Enter your content in the editor

For highlights, you can optionally add a note by clicking "Add a note" below the highlight content

Tips for Manual Import

  1. Rich Text Formatting: The editor supports rich text formatting, allowing you to preserve formatting from your original source.
  2. Adding Notes to Highlights: You can add notes to highlights at the time of creation or later by editing the highlight.
  3. Organizing Content: After adding content manually, you can organize it using the same features available for automated imports:
    • Add tags for better organization
    • Create collections
    • Mark highlights as favorites
    • Archive content you no longer need
